In 1900, J.C. Leyendecker was the most famous illustrator in America. Artist Norman Rockwell called him his greatest inspiration. For fifty years, the men Leyendecker painted appeared on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post, idealized, elegant, and electrifyingly alive. Now, we see something that Leyendecker's public did not, orperhaps chose not to. This presentation asks you to consider what Leyendecker and several other artists revealed when they painted men.
