Scottsdale Stories & Sweets - Week 1: The History of the Community Design Studio
Presentation Description:
Listen to a story about Scottsdale in the 1950s and enjoy a sweet treat from Scoop Premium Ice Cream in Old Town.
The Community Design Studio is likely a building you've passed many times.
Located on the northeast corner of Indian School and 75th Street, this iconic
building has had many lives and is home to several fun public art pieces.
Seventy-four years ago, the Ascension Lutheran Church opened for Sunday
service, but quickly outgrew the building and moved away. During this
presentation, learn how the building was used 30 years before the city's
purchase and how it is used today. Those aged 13 and older are welcome. Treats
available while supplies last. Please register to help us plan for food
quantities.
How to find Stories & Sweets
This presentation is hosted in the Community Design Studio, a building that looks like an old church (because it was!) and is on the northeast corner of 75th Street and Indian School Road.
We have limited parking on the west and north sides of the building, but you can park in the lot to the north at the Methodist Church.
The presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
This presentation is part of Stories & Sweets, a collection of stories shared throughout June. It is presented by the City of Scottsdale and Community Involvement Advisor Bruce Wall. There will be three additional Stories & Sweets on Tuesdays in June, including:
- Week 2: THE Place to be Seen and The Indomitable Woman of Scottsdale. Register
- Week 3: Mystery and Murder in Old Town. Register
- Week 4: Scottsdale and the Little Red Schoolhouse. Register
Each presentation is considered standalone. You don't have to attend any to attend the others.
