What's on the Horizon?

Is the horizon important in an artwork?  Decide for yourself as we explore the American and Western American galleries of Phoenix Art Museum. 

  • Discover how moving the horizon (up or down, with a few surprises) impacts perception for the viewer.
  • See how art developed and changed as artists moved from East to West in the United States, and gain information about the artists themselves.
  • Learn how the portrayal of the Rocky Mountains, New Mexico and Arizona influenced migration, tourism and government policy.
